This fictional play follows a colored all-star team around the country in the year 1939. The teams manager, Chappie Johnson hires a white boy, Joe, to play first base for the team. He must use shoe polish to darken his skin before taking the field. Joe gains respect for his teammates and gets a first hand look at discrimination.
